“First you eat, then you do everything else”

MFK Fisher

I am passionate about food and travel and how authentic engagement with the "other" expands your horizons and makes the world a better place. In my spare time, I am a professor of nutrition. I want you to enjoy food, love food and taste new food. I like to think of myself as a food flaneur.

On this site, as well as sharing my thoughts and tips about food, nutrition, eating, wine, bodies, children, work, travel, and life.

Why the food flaneur?

The flaneur is described as the “passionate spectator” in constant pursuit of knowledge, who appreciates the aesthetic. On this site and in these blogs I am looking to channel the cosmopolitan flaneur, marked by engagements with difference. This means not just being receptive to other cultures but seeking to develop and exercise intercultural understanding.

What I am hoping to achieve is the mindful flaneur who moves from detached observation to engaged interaction. I hope my ruminations will encourage you to engage, to try new things, think deeply about issues, and expand your horizons. Even if its just a new recipe!
